Questions about Xylitol and how it promotes dental health

How is xylitol good for teeth?

Dangerous germs in the mouth are the first cause of tooth decay. These bacteria get energy from sugary meals to grow and generate acids that erode tooth enamel and lead to disease. On the other hand, xylitol inhibits their growth, kills the bacteria (they can drop by up to 90%), and stops acid attacks.

Additionally, it lessens the bacteria’s capacity to adhere to your teeth, making plaque removal simpler.

How do I make sure I get all the benefits of xylitol?

At least 5g of xylitol should be consumed daily, according to dentists. Crucially, this should be divided into several meals, preferably after every meal or snack (when there’s a chance of an acid attack). In order to give the xylitol enough time to come into touch with your teeth, you should also attempt to keep the mint or gum in your mouth for at least a minute.

Isn't all chewing gum good for teeth?

Both yes and no. Gum without added sugar encourages saliva, which helps balance the pH of the mouth.
Our 100% xylitol gum differs from ordinary sugar-free gum in that xylitol actively suppresses the bacteria that first produce these acids, preventing issues before they arise.
Xylitol is present in certain sugar-free gum, although typically in very little amounts. It’s vital to remember that you need to consume 5g of xylitol daily to get its dental benefits. To put that in perspective, you would only need five pieces of our gum each day, but because normal sugar-free gum has less xylitol, you would need several packs.

How can mints be good for your teeth?

Since most mints are still manufactured with sugar, which feeds the bacteria that generate acids and plaque, we understand that it can be difficult to accept the idea that mints can be beneficial to teeth. However, 100% xylitol mints, like ours, have the opposite effect and actually lessen this dangerous bacteria, reducing plaque and acidity. To ensure that the xylitol has enough time to come into touch with your teeth, it is crucial that you suck our mints and attempt to keep them in your mouth for at least a minute.

How do I know you're not just making stuff up?

For almost fifty years, xylitol’s advantages have been scientifically demonstrated. More than 600 clinical trials have been conducted on it, and the results clearly show that it can lower plaque.

We collaborate closely with numerous dental professionals who recommend our products. but if you want to get into the science of how xylitol works for yourself, click here

Does eating your mints and gum mean I don't have to bother brushing my teeth?

Not at all. You still need to brush your teeth at least twice a day, use a good mouthwash, and see your dentist and hygienist on a regular basis, even though our mints and gum are very helpful tools to help keep your teeth healthy.

How do I know that xylitol is safe to eat?

Xylitol is a completely safe ingredient for humans. JEFCA (The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives) has put it in the safest possible category a food ingredient can be in & FSSAI has approved it as a safe to use food ingredient.

Remember though, our doggy friends can’t eat xylitol, it’s toxic for them.

If xylitol is so great, why isn't it everywhere?

Excellent question. In other nations, especially Scandinavia and Japan, where dental care is more progressive, xylitol is extremely well-liked. The majority of manufacturers continue to use ingredients like sugar, sorbitol, or aspartame because they are significantly less expensive, and India is lagging behind in this area. For instance, more than 90% of the mints consumed in India are made of sugar, which is absurd because they simply increase oral bacteria and harm teeth.
The fact that there is a sugar substitute that is actively beneficial to teeth can be difficult for people to comprehend, but the good news is that xylitol is becoming more widely known.

What about the laxative effects? How much xylitol is OK to eat in one day?

Like all polyols, xylitol can have a laxative effect when consumed in excess. Xylitol is a member of the polyol family of sugar substitutes. The good news is that compared to some other sugar substitutes, xylitol is much better tolerated because 25% to 50% of it is absorbed in the intestine. According to research, adults can tolerate up to 70g of xylitol, while children can tolerate up to 40g.

To put this in perspective, a pack of mints contains around 15g of xylitol, so most people will be able to tolerate it. Some people are sensitive to xylitol, but even they can typically develop a tolerance with time.

If you’re concerned as you have other food sensitivities you can start off with lower daily amounts of xylitol and increase them as your tolerance will increase over time.
